Nick Saban thanks Alabama footballâs fans after SEC win over LSU
Alabama football’s fans did it again. Two weeks after the Crimson Tide’s win over Tennessee came with the rowdy Bryant-Denny Stadium atmosphere requested by Nick Saban, the noise returned for UA’s 42-28 victory over LSU Saturday.
After the game, Saban praised the Tide faithful.
“The fans were great,” the head coach said. “It was great. The atmosphere was great, it cost them some penalties in critical times in the game, which gave us a favorable down and distance, which helped us on defense tremendously.”
Alabama’s crowds have gained a reputation around the league for being somewhat complacent, perhaps as a result of becoming used to so much winning under Saban. During Alabama’s final two SEC home games, that certainly wasn’t the case.
“The atmosphere in the stadium in the last two games, I don’t think you could ever ask for more,” Saban said. “And I certainly thank the fans for it. I asked them to do it, they responded really well. They played for 60 minutes, just like our players and God love them for it.”
The Tigers had five false start penalties throughout Saturday’s game. Three of them came in the second half.
The Tide won Saturday’s game off the strength of quarterback Jalen Milroe’s performance, passing for 219 yards and rushing for 155, along with four touchdowns. The defense also stepped up when it needed to, with crucial stops in the second half.
Afterward, defensive lineman Justin Eboigbe said the crowd was a factor.
“You know when you get a big stop, you can hear the crowd feeding of of it,” Eboigbe said.
Alabama moved to 8-1 on the season with the win, 6-0 in SEC play. The Crimson Tide will be back in action next Saturday at Kentucky.
